Restoration of castle ruins
In the spring of 2007, a large-scale consolidation of the castle ruins was started. This project does not involve reconstruction, but is meant to restore and protect all areas of the ruin that suffer from wear. The primary cause of wear is plant growth, especially woody plants (such as ivy and shrubbery) with roots that work their way into the ground/marlstone.
This project is being led by Kieft Partners Bouwadvies. The interior of the chapel has now been completed. The western facades will be done at a later stage. The portion of the wall on which d'n Ingel (the weather vane) stands was replaced last year. The interior of the Great Hall has also been finished, and the dungeon was restored last year. Work is now proceeding on the Queen's Gallery and the inner ring wall. Still to come are the artillery room, the Capruyn tower and the outer ring wall.
